Oh and we don't do boats well, we spent the next 24hours rocking back and forth on the boat while standing, lying and even while sleeping. I wonder did Orlando and Johnny get motion sickness while sailing the Caribbean? Me thinks not...No really nobody tells you about the sinister little part of living in a tropical paradise; boating. It's evil and should be stopped, honestly what benefit is it if you spend the next day falling over because you take such big steps to compensate that you miss the ground entirely.
Day of recovery today, hired a bike and rode into town to use the internet and find some air con for a few hours. Motorbikes (read scooters) are cool, even if you only get the 100cc version that can barely haul two people up a hill. You have nothing to balance on and we had an auto so it was crusie control all the way. That doesn't stop Thai drivers trying to run you over or cross into your path with amazing regularity. In these situations you think that would never happen in Australia but then you realise that at least the drivers are better than those from say Hobart. They sometimes use brake lights and usually have their lights on at night. There aren't any Volvo or Subaru drivers (sorry Penny, Tasmanian Subaru drivers only). As for traffic lights fear not cause they don't exist...at all. It's genius, you never have to stop. Oh and the cool thing I forgot to mention about Bangkok is that the lights actually have countdowns to when the lights go green...did I hear you say starters grid...you bet. Loki, Scott and De Paoli eat your hearts out this place is a bonafide racetrack if you can get a decent bike or vehicle. They also countdown to the lights going red. Don't worry they go yellow first which gives you three or so more seconds before you really have to stop. Helmets are optional if you don't think your brain is squishable.
Tomorrow we are off to Phuket via Phi Phi island. Next place we stay needs a flushing toilet and hot water. The interesting thing about a tropical paradise while living in a bungalow on the beach is that after a while the sand invades the entire bungalow, theres no escaping it and that pretty much gauges when you leave tropical paradise...when you drown in the sand that you initially looked at climbing over the toilet seat and went, "Sweet beach sand stuff, go wherever you want I don't mind, it's your toilet too, let's all live in utopian tropical paradise together." Cut to three days later and it's just sand that is sitting on your toilet grating your thighs.
All the same you realise how fortunate it is to have the sand in the first place connected to an ocean with lovely islands poking out on the horizon and the horizon is so flat...brilliant.
Italics is jono rant (ill clarify this from now on to reduce confusion)
I think pirates actually eat sand. Ollie has it turn up everywhere and I've no idea where it comes from. Now I know to watch out for the italics, you can read that how you will! Cats vs Hawks Friday night - Em, I know you care! Go Cats!
